I’m still shell shocked, from the post-practice 5 minute Sam Mitchell interview I just listened to. [Yes, I’m editing some parts out, but no context imaginable can make these quotes sensible. ]
On game strategy and matchups: “We’ve been watching a lot of tape. It doesn’t matter who you play, it’s how you play…we haven’t made shatts.”
And then Sun-Tzu cryptic philosophy: “To get where you wanna go, you gotta beat whoever you gotta beat. If we’re making shatts, we can beat anybody.”
On confidence, he offers the mathematic: “All players are one shot away from getting on a roll…” and then as a team: “You’re always one game or one half away from getting your confidence back.”
On where they stand as a team: “We’ve earned the right to be in the playoffs.”
To which a courageous reporter asks: “What do you say to the recent losses to sub .500 teams?”
Sam, ornery now: “Do you pick up the sports page every morning? Do you? Every night someone who’s SUPPOSED to win…loses. [Rattles a minute-long list of upsets, tailing off about Durant’s play against Denver last night.]
And then finally: “I don’t want them trying too hard…I want them to be loose”
Newsflash Smitch: You got 99 prollems, and trying ain’t one.

He’s gotta be either the most stubborn coach in the nba or the stupidiest.. How many times do we have to hear “we didn’t make shatts”?

Oh man, that is so classic, he does say that all the time. Shatts! Hahaa!
Give the man a break, we’re doing okay. We’re in the playoffs and this team has seen the biggest turnaround over the course of the past 2 years. Give the man some credit. Atlantic Division Champions baby 2006-2007. This season isn’t over. I question the man’s moves as of late, but hey, I think he knows a bit more than I do.
